Transparency
Transparency in local municipal government helps build trust between residents and those elected to represent them. When people can easily access information about decisions, budgets, and community priorities, they are better able to understand how their municipality operates and how public money is being used. Open and transparent government also strengthens accountability by making it easier to spot problems, ask questions, and ensure officials act in the public interest. Most importantly, transparency encourages meaningful community involvement by giving residents the information they need to participate, share feedback, and stay informed about issues that affect everyday life.
Fiscal Responsibility
Fiscal responsibility is a cornerstone of good municipal politics because it ensures public funds are managed carefully, transparently, and in ways that reflect community priorities. Municipal governments are responsible for delivering essential services such as roads, recreation, waste collection, and snow removal, so thoughtful budgeting and responsible spending are critical to maintaining those services without placing unnecessary financial pressure on residents. In Aurora, 44 cents of every tax dollar goes to the region for Regional services like Fire, Police and Paramedic . Eighteen cents goes to Education leaving 38 cents the Town manages. Our 2026 Operating Budget is $131.7 million and the Capital Budget is $67.8 million. I'd like to see more fiscal responsibility and bring savings to Aurora taxpayers instead of tax increases. When local leaders show sound financial judgment, they build public confidence and help create a stable foundation for a community’s future.
Our Local Environment & Green Spaces
The local environment and green spaces are essential to a town’s health, identity, and quality of life. Parks, trails, trees, and natural areas provide places for residents to relax, exercise, and connect with nature, while also helping to improve air quality, reduce heat, and support local wildlife. Well-maintained green spaces make neighbourhoods more attractive, strengthen community pride, and create welcoming places where people can gather and spend time together. Protecting the local environment also helps ensure that future generations can enjoy a healthy, sustainable, and resilient community.
Local Business
A vibrant local business community is an important part of a strong and sustainable town. Local businesses create jobs, support families, bring life to main streets and help keep money circulating within the community. They also make it easier for residents to shop, dine, and access services close to home, which can reduce the need for longer car trips and lower transportation-related emissions. By supporting local businesses and encouraging walkable, well-connected commercial areas, a town can strengthen its economy while also helping to reduce its carbon footprint and build a more resilient community.
Leadership & Vision
Effective leadership is essential in local municipal politics because it helps turn community goals into meaningful action. Strong leaders listen to residents, make thoughtful decisions, and bring people together around a shared vision for the town’s future. They are able to balance immediate needs with long-term planning, respond to challenges with integrity, and work collaboratively to deliver real results.
